The Joy Of Salvation

1. Sin Hurts Our Relationship , Not Our Position

📖 Psalms 51:1-6 (KJV) To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. 5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

  • David acknowledges his guilt before a holy God. He doesn’t fear losing his salvation, but he feels the distance.

📖 1 John 1:6-10 (KJV) If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

  • Sin affects our fellowship with God, relationship can never change like Father to a Son that never changes but the fellowship can!

📖 Isaiah 59:2 (KJV) But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

  • The problems we will face when we are in this position is that God won’t hear our prayers or will not bless us. An example is King Saul, who said that God won’t hear him so he went to the witch at Endor…

📖 1 Samuel 28:6-7 (KJV) And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. 7 Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

  • This is a sad place to be in when you need peace of mind and Gods love, the Joy was not there, which caused Saul to sin a sin unto death.

📖 1 John 5:16 (KJV) If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

  • So even though we sin and even die because of it, it doesn’t mean that we lose salvation as the prophet said to Saul that he will be with him in heaven tomorrow.

📖 1 Samuel 28:19 (KJV) Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.

Truth: A believer in sin may still be saved, but not satisfied.

2. True Repentance Revives the Joy of Salvation

📖 Psalms 51:7-12 (KJV) Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. 9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

  • David doesn’t ask to be saved again he asks to have the joy of salvation returned.

  • Real repentance doesn’t just seek forgiveness, it longs for restoration of relationship.

  • Joy comes from being clean before God.

📖 Proverbs 28:13 (KJV) He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

  • Its important to confess the sins right away, especially when its find out, because we can hid it and God knows in the hopes your repent, but when you don’t repent God gives you another chance by exposing it to see if you will repent then, and if not God will deal to you just as he dealt with Cain….

📖 Genesis 4:6-7 (KJV) And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

  • But Cain didn’t want to listen or humble himself which lead him to a great sin, and a curse of his brother. So we need to be careful and listen to when God is asking for repentance because God will give mercy if we do.

📖 Acts 3:19 (KJV) Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

📖 Psalms 32:1-5 (KJV) A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. 3 When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. 4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. 5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

  • David had sins that most have never done, like murder and adultery together and related to the same situation. Yet David was greatly used by God.

3. Restored Joy Leads to Renewed Purpose

📖 Psalms 51:13-19 (KJV) Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. 14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. 15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. 16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. 18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. 19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

  • When joy is restored, so is usefulness in ministry, worship, and testimony.

📖 Luke 22:32 (KJV) But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

  • So we see here that Peter had a sin that Satan could use against him in the future but Jesus prayed for his protection of faith, because sometimes our sin can have a backwards effect that destroys your whole walk in God which is terrible and sad but here Jesus knew Satans plans to discourage Peter and it didn’t work, as Peter became on fire for God after the resurrection of Jesus.

  • A mistake people can make is thinking that Peter isn’t saved yet because of the word “Converted” but the word in Greek is ἐπιστρέψῃς (epistrephō) which means to turn around, to return, to turn back, and this is because after Peter is hit with the denial of Jesus, Peter needed to recover from that attack of satan, so thats what this verse is talking about.

  • After he recovered Peter did what Jesus said to do in Luke 22:32 “strengthen thy brethren” Peter became the lead pastor in the church of Jerusalem.

  • So it goes to show that God can restore us and make us whole again as a result of having pure repentance and humbleness in our hearts, because that is what God is looking for, usable, Teachable and humble servants, if you can take a Loss like a man and repent God can use you.

Truth: A forgiven believer becomes a passionate witness. God uses broken vessels made whole by grace.

Conclusion

  1. Sin Diminishes Fellowship, Not Sonship – Salvation is secure, but intimacy can be lost.

  2. Repentance Restores the Joy – We must turn back to God and let Him revive us.

  3. Restored Joy Fuels Purpose – With joy renewed, we become fruitful again in His service.
