Speaking Gibberish
God never intended tongues to be gibberish or a show.
Tongues were real languages for a real purpose and the Gospel is spread by preaching, not performance.
1️⃣ WHAT BIBLICAL TONGUES REALLY WERE
📖 Acts 2:4-11 (KJV) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
The Bible is crystal clear:
• Tongues = real human languages
• Understood by the listeners
• Used for evangelism
Not:
• Ecstatic speech
• Heavenly noises
• Emotional chanting
• Unknown sounds
📖Acts 2:6 (KJV) Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
📖 Acts 2:8 (KJV) And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
👉 If tongues were gibberish, no one would’ve understood.
Tongues really shouldn’t be used in a church service because if an unsaved person comes to church and understands not, they would think your mad.
📖 1 Corinthians 14:22-25 (KJV) Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. 23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: 25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
Tongues in the Bible were never given as a personal prayer language or spiritual badge. They were a sign to unbelieving Jews, a fulfillment of the judgment warning in Isaiah 28, a temporary, transitional gift during the early days of the church. Their purpose was to confirm God’s shift from Israel to the church and to validate the apostles’ message before the New Testament Scriptures were completed.
Not a permanent church practice.
2️⃣ MODERN PENTECOSTAL TONGUES ARE NOT BIBLICAL
Modern practice:
• Emotional outbursts
• Repetitive sounds
• No interpretation
• Disorderly worship
• Used to impress crowds
But the Bible says:
📖 1 Corinthians 14:9 (KJV) So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
📖 1 Corinthians 14:27-28 (KJV) If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
It’s clear that you should be quiet if you don’t have an interpreter with you while you’re speaking tongues. Yet when you see these Gibberish speaking so-called churches, they more using tongues as a show, so that they can easily suck in the vulnerable by their majestical gibberish speech. Yet Paul is telling us to be quiet if others can’t understand.
In fact Paul tells us that preaching is far better than speaking in an unknown tongue.
📖 1 Corinthians 14:1-4 (KJV) Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
If your going to speak in tongues your only edifying yourself, and you look mad to those who don’t know what your saying, and its true, I had friends and whanau that was disgusted with this so-called prophetess who come to Wairoa speaking in tongues, the post was shared around and people who were unsaved was calling them mad. It mad Christianity look stupid.
The only time Christianity should be hated by the world is for preaching against Sin.
John 3:16-21 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
This is why Jesus was hated, Jesus was not hated because of speaking in tongues. So when you give christianity a bad name for random things that has nothing to do with being righteous then your defiling Christs name for no reason and yes God isn’t with you.
📖 1 Corinthians 14:40 (KJV) Let all things be done decently and in order.
3️⃣ GIBBERISH DOES NOT SAVE SOULS
Pentecostalism often uses tongues as:
• A spectacle
• An attraction
• A “spiritual experience”
But God never saves through experiences.
📖 Romans 10:17 (KJV) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
📖 1 Corinthians 1:21 (KJV) For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
People don’t get saved by emotions, these are false converts, emotions will only last a day and then they back to square one lost again. This is the way of pentecostals churches as well, people come for emotional attention and release, but being emotional doesn’t take away the heavy load depression, but true preaching of salvation does.
📖 Matthew 11:28-30 (KJV) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Jesus is saying if you believed on me and received the free gift of the eternal life you would find rest for soul.
Why?
Because those who have salvation aren’t worried about this life as unsaved people are who don’t know where they going or doing in life or who don’t have a bright future ahead of them get unset because they only see this life. But us Christians we see into eternity and we have confidence we will be there, its not, “I Don’t Know”
📖 1 John 5:13-15 (KJV) These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
This is another issue with false converts, they don’t know if they are 100% sure if they are going to heaven, and its sad, because thats the whole point of Bible is to tell you about eternity and how to get there definitely.
📖 Ephesians 1:13-14 (KJV) In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
the Bible is making it clear that the moment you believe on gospel of Christ by hearing the words of truth, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit until Jesus returns, this means that the moment we are saved we are always saved because the Holy Spirit seals us, the reason for the seal, is because God knows that we are in the flesh still meaning that we as christians will still sin because of it.
📖 1 John 1:8-10 (KJV) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Christians aren’t sinless? Because of the flesh.
📖 Galatians 5:17 (KJV) For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Paul teaches us that there is a continuous battle of the flesh against our spirit, as our spirit wants to do right.
This is important to understand because if you not 100% sure your going heaven then the Bible says that you haven’t received the understanding of Gospel that its eternal and can never be lost.
📖 1 John 5:10-12 (KJV) He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
So we have to believe we have eternal life through what Jesus did for us on the cross for us, he paid our debt with his blood that we may enter into heaven boldly without doubt.
This is how we get saved, not by emotion shows and mysterious powers
Not:
• Tongues
• Music
• Atmosphere
• Emotional highs
But:
👉 Preaching the Word.
4️⃣ THE BIBLE IS THE POWER NOT MANIFESTATIONS
📖 Hebrews 4:12 (KJV) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
📖 John 17:17 (KJV) Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
📖 James 1:18 (KJV) Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
James is telling us here that we are born again through the word of truth “which is the Bible”
People are born again by:
✔ The Word
✔ The Gospel
✔ The truth of Christ
Not by spiritual performances.
5️⃣ WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING INSTEAD
Instead of chasing manifestations:
We should be preaching Christ.
📖 Acts 5:42 (KJV) And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
Our church follows the Bible, we go house to house and teach and preach Jesus Christ, and what is the gospel?
📖 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV) Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
This is what we should be preaching and doing, is preaching the Bible, teaching our people about the free gift of eternal life through the gospel.
The Gospel:
• Christ died for our sins
• Was buried
• Rose again
👉 That is what saves.
🔥 CONCLUSION
Tongues were real languages.
Gibberish is not biblical.
The show doesn’t save.
The Spirit works through Scripture.
And souls are saved by the Gospel — not emotional experiences.
💬 STRONG CLOSING STATEMENT
“God never told us to impress the world — He told us to preach to it.”
