Men of Homes
📖 Ephesians 5:22-24 (KJV) Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Introduction
Today many homes are broken because God’s order has been abandoned. Society teaches that leadership in the home does not matter, but the Bible clearly teaches that God appointed the man to lead his household.
When a man refuses leadership:
Families lose direction
Children lack guidance
Homes fall into disorder
But when a man follows God's design, the home becomes strong, stable, and blessed.
1️⃣ Leadership in the Home Is God’s Design
📖 Genesis 2:18 (KJV) And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
God created Adam first, then Eve as a helper.
📖 1 Timothy 2:11-15 (KJV) Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
📖 1 Corinthians 11:3 (KJV) But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
God established an order of authority:
God
Christ
Man
Woman
Children
This order is not about superiority, but about responsibility and structure.
Example:
A team needs a captain
An army needs a commander
A home needs a leader
Without leadership, there is confusion and instability.
Even our ancestors naturally understood male leadership for chief of Hapu or Iwi, and Tane were leaders of the whare.
📖 Judges 21:25 (KJV) In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
That verse describes what happens when leadership disappears.
2️⃣ A Man Must Lead Spiritually
A man's greatest responsibility is spiritual leadership.
📖 Joshua 24:15 (KJV) And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Notice Joshua did not say:
“My wife will decide.”
He said:
“As for me and my house.”
He took responsibility for the direction of his home.
📖 Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (KJV) And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
📖 Ephesians 6:4 (KJV) And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
The Bible places the primary responsibility on fathers.
Examples in Scripture:
Abraham
📖 Genesis 18:19 (KJV) For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
God chose Abraham because he led his family spiritually.
Men Tend to Process Decisions More Analytically
Some studies in cognitive psychology show men often lean toward systematic or analytical thinking, meaning they break problems into steps and focus on outcomes.
Common tendencies:
Focus on problem solving
Prioritize objectives and results
Less influenced by relational dynamics during decisions
Women often show stronger empathetic or relational processing, meaning they consider how decisions affect people emotionally and socially.
This difference is sometimes described as:
Systematic thinking (men)
Empathizing thinking (women)
This concept is discussed in research by psychologist Simon Baron-Cohen (Cambridge University).
3️⃣ Leadership Requires Love and Sacrifice
Biblical leadership is not domination.
It is sacrificial leadership.
📖 Ephesians 5:25 (KJV) Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
love
sacrifice
care
protection
That is how a man should lead his home.
A biblical leader:
protects his family
provides for them
sacrifices for them
guides them spiritually
📖 1 Timothy 5:8 (KJV) But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
4️⃣ When Men Fail to Lead, Families Suffer
Many problems in society come from absent or passive fathers.
📖 1 Kings 1:6 (KJV) And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.
Speaking of David and his son Adonijah:
“And his father had not displeased him at any time.”
David failed to correct his son, and Adonijah became rebellious.
Another example:
📖 1 Samuel 3:13 (KJV) For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
Eli failed to restrain his sons, and God judged his house.
When fathers do not lead:
discipline disappears
values collapse
children go astray
But when fathers lead well, families thrive.
5️⃣ The Man Is Accountable to God
A man will answer to God for his household.
Notice in the fall of man:
📖 Genesis 3:8-11 (KJV) And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
God called Adam first, even though Eve sinned first.
Why?
Because Adam was responsible.
Leadership always carries accountability.
Leaders must give an account.
That principle begins in the home.
Conclusion
God’s design for the home is clear:
The man must be a leader who:
follows Christ
teaches God's Word
protects his family
loves sacrificially
guides his household
A strong church begins with strong homes.
And strong homes begin with godly men.
📖Psalms 128:1-6 (KJV) A Song of degrees. Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. 2 For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. 3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. 4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD. 5 The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. 6 Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.
When a man walks with God, his whole family is blessed.
Men must ask themselves:
Am I leading my home spiritually?
Am I teaching my children God's Word?
Am I following Christ so my family can follow me?
Because the truth is:
If a man does not lead his home, something else will.
