The Simple Birth Of Christ
1️⃣ Birthplace of Christ
📖 Micah 5:2 (KJV) But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
What's interesting about this place is that it was insignificant at all as mentioned here "though thou be little among the thousands of Judah"
God purposely chose a simple place for the birth of Christ, because he didn't want people to worship the place over the person.
📖 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 (KJV) But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
Did you know God didn't want to highlight Christ in a special luxurious place because people would worship the place as the person?
🪵 The Bronze Serpent: A Perfect Parallel
God once used a physical object to heal Israel:
📖 Numbers 21:8-9 (KJV) And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. 9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
But when people later started worshiping it:
📖 2 Kings 18:4 (KJV) He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.
Hezekiah destroyed it. Why? Because what God used as a tool became an idol.
➡️ This shows exactly why God avoids glorifying objects and places.
🏔️ Moses’ Grave — God Hid the Body
Moses was:
• God’s servant
• Lawgiver
• Highly revered
If anyone’s grave would become a shrine it would be Moses. So what did God do?
📖 Deuteronomy 34:5-6 (KJV) So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD. 6 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.
🔥 Why?
Because Israel would have:
• Built a monument
• Worshiped the site
• Revered the grave
📖 Jude 1:9 (KJV) Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
Ever wonder why the Angels are contending for the body of Moses? Why is Satan interested in the body of Moses? Because Satan can use it to glorify a man and not God.
You see Satan has one goal in life and that's to make sure no one gets to know God, Satan we do anything to point people to something else rather than God.
🪔 Gideon’s Ephod
Gideon defeated Midian by God’s power. Later, he made an ephod (a religious garment/object).
📖 Judges 8:27 (KJV) And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.
🔥 Lesson:
Even something connected to God’s work can become an idol if exalted, and God is not for it.
It's like the Catholics who worship Mary's statue? This is twice bad, because it's a person that isn't God and it's an object of the person that isn't God.
📖 Exodus 20:3-5 (KJV) Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
But what does the Catholics do! Make statues of Mary, someone that is only a vessel used by God to bring the savour of the world.
📖 Luke 1:46-47 (KJV) And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Mary acknowledged she needed a Saviour, which places her with us, not above us.
WE could go on and on about the silliness of man worshipping things other than Jesus, it only makes Satan happy.
WE are talking about the simple birth of Christ, it was simple so that people could focus on Christ alone.
2️⃣ Born in a Manger
📖 Luke 2:7 (KJV) And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
1. The Shock of Christ’s Birthplace
Jesus’ birth is not just simple it is intentionally humbling.
The word translated “inn” refers to a guest room or lodging space, not a luxury hotel.
Even that modest place was unavailable.
Christ was not merely born without comfort He was born lower than human lodging, placed in a manger, a feeding trough for animals.
📖 2 Corinthians 8:9 (KJV) For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
This was not circumstance it was divine choice.
2. The Manger: A Place of Lowest Rank
A manger is: A feeding place for animals, Associated with uncleanness, The lowest possible place a newborn could be laid.
📖 Philippians 2:6-7 (KJV) Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Christ did not lose His divinity He veiled it in humility.
3. The King Who Did Not Demand His Rights
Earthly rulers protect their image, comfort, and power. Even modern rulers like Kim Jong-un would never tolerate such conditions Yet Jesus the King of kings was unbothered by lowliness
📖 Matthew 20:28 (KJV) Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
True strength is not loud. True authority does not need luxury. True greatness is comfortable being low.
📖 James 4:6 (KJV) But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
📖 Luke 1:52 (KJV) He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
I have noticed a great truth in life and its humbleness, you can go so far if you're humble enough to learn from others.
What This Teaches Us is that Christ’s birth answers a deep human problem: pride. Pride is the very thing that got Satan kicked from Heaven and it's the very thing that stops us from going to heaven if we can't accept the Lord Jesus Christ.
3️⃣ Lowly Parents
Jesus was not born into wealth, royalty, or religious elites, Mary and Joseph were poor, They could not afford a lamb at Jesus’ dedication
📖 Luke 2:22-24 (KJV) And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; 23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) 24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
What we see is Mary is giving an offering for the poor
📖 Leviticus 12:6-8 (KJV) And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtledove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest: 7 Who shall offer it before the LORD, and make an atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her that hath born a male or a female. 8 And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean.
This offering was for the poor who could not afford a lamb,t Creator of the universe was born into poverty by choice.
Mary was a young woman from an obscure town with no power or reputation
📖 Luke 1:46-48 (KJV) And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. 48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
God did not choose a queen He chose a servant girl, to have the Lord Jesus Christ.
⏰ Conclusion
What do we learn from this? We learn that no matter where you are born, if it’s a place of poverty or a small town you can excel in life, do your best and God will do the rest.
📖 Philippians 4:13 (KJV) I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
We also learnt that that humility can take you far as Christ was born in humility but comes back as Lord of lords.
📖 Matthew 23:12 (KJV) And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
And lastly we learnt that if we are born to parents that are less fortunate, doesn’t mean you have to follow, there are many stories of people born in poverty that do great things in world, don’t let excuses stop you from excelling to your best person.
