The Millennial Reign
📖 Revelation 20:1-6 (KJV) And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
What we see here is that Satan is Bound for 1000 Years where during that time Christ is setting up his kingdom on earth where he rules from Jerusalem.
1️⃣ The First Resurrection
📖 Revelation 20:6 (KJV) Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
What we need to understand about the first resurrection is this is during rapture when Christ returns after the tribulation according to Matthew 24:29
📖 Matthew 24:29-31 (KJV) Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
So this position is called the post tribulation pre wrath position, which I find to be the most solid interpretation of Scripture.
What we see here in this verse is that the rapture is where the angels gather us up to Christ.
📖 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (KJV) But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
If you believe that Jesus died and rose again you will be apart of the first resurrection, because the “dead in Christ shall rise first”
Once we are resurrected we are changed and caught up to Jesus
📖 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 (KJV) Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
This all happens at the rapture or otherwise called the second coming of Jesus. We are resurrected and given new immortal bodies, this means we cannot die.
Why this is important is because when we return with Christ and set up the Millennium Reign, we will be immortal but those that are on the earth are mortal and will continue to die, once they die they all have to wait for the next resurrection which is after the 1000 years.
📖 Revelation 20:4-6 (KJV) And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
2️⃣ Ruling the Earth
📖 Revelation 20:6 (KJV) Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
The question to ask is who and what are we reigning over?
📖 Revelation 2:26-27 (KJV) And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
So this is where the judgment seat of Christ comes into play, because we are judged for our works done for God which determines our eternal positions in the Millennium Reign,
📖 Matthew 25:20-23 (KJV) And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Now this is a parable of what the kingdom of heaven (Millennium reign) is like because Jesus mentioned it in verse 14
📖 Matthew 25:14-15 (KJV) For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
And Jesus is trying to explain how we are positioned in that Kingdom, and it’s based on our works, not for salvation but for how well we did on earth during our time.
When we have our positions then it’s our job to rule and reign over the rest of earth that wasn’t apart of the first resurrection.
There will still be people getting saved but they will die and wait for the next resurrection if they wasn’t apart of first resurrection.
📖 Daniel 7:13-18 (KJV) I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. 15 I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me. 16 I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things. 17 These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth. 18 But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.
So it’s clear that the Jesus and the saints will rule over the nations via Gods law.
📖 Daniel 7:27 (KJV) And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.
3️⃣ What will the Kingdom be like?
📖 Isaiah 65:17-25 (KJV) For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. 18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. 19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. 20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed. 21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. 22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them. 24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. 25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
✅ New Heaven and New earth?
Firstly this is called the new heavens and new earth which is a little different from Millennium reign, because the new heaven and new earth starts in Revelation 21, and the problem with that is in this passage it shows people can still die…
📖 Isaiah 65:20 (KJV) There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.
But in the new heavens and new earth no one dies…
📖 Revelation 21:1-4 (KJV) And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Now there is no death in the new heaven and new earth, so I believe the passage is speaking about the Millennium reign, and the reason why Isaiah calls it the new heavens and new earth is because he is speaking from at less 800 years ago and his isn’t speaking in detail.
If you think about it the Millennium reign is called the kingdom forever and ever so the Millennium reign is connected to new heaven and earth the only thing separating it is Satan being loosed after the thousands years but that doesn’t stop Christ’s kingdom, because Satan gets destroyed and the rest are judged then the next resurrection happens and the kingdom carries on.
✅ People will live long
📖 Isaiah 65:20 (KJV) There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.
So it’s explaining that if someone dies at 5 years old, we say, “They died as a child.” But In Isaiah 65, if someone dies at 100 years old, they are considered to have died like a child.
This means people are living much longer during this period.
“There shall be no more thence an infant of days...” Meaning there will no longer be infants living only a few days and dying prematurely.
“nor an old man that hath not filled his days...” Meaning an elderly man will live out his full lifespan rather than having his life cut short.
The tree comparison explains it Two verses later:
📖 Isaiah 65:22 (KJV) They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
So long life is given to the people and the reasons for that is because righteousness is ruling and reigning just like before the flood people lived long
Genesis 5:5 — Adam: 930 years
Genesis 5:8 — Seth: 912 years
Genesis 5:27 — Methuselah: 969 years
But after that God shorten the life span due to sin in the world.
✅ People will build houses
📖 Isaiah 65:22 (KJV) They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
I believe there will be rebuilding during the time of the Millennium reign because what we need to understand is the world before had been mashed by Gods wrath through all the plagues.
✅ Animals will live in peace
📖 Isaiah 65:25 (KJV) The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
What's interesting about this? Is that animals will become herbivores eating things like straw
📖 Isaiah 11:6-10 (KJV) The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. 9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. 10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.
Animals will also be peaceful. Now this is only happening in the Holy Mountain which is where Jesus is ruling from and where all the Saints live. So all this passage is applying to the saints during this time that didn’t make the first resurrection.
4️⃣ After the Millennium
📖 Revelation 20:7-10 (KJV) And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
We have Satan loosed once the 1000 year is done then Satan will gather together an army of unbelievers which will lead into another battle called Gog and Magog which we will discuss in the next sermon.
