The Myth of Purgatory

Is Purgatory biblical, or does the Bible teach something different?

In this message we examine the common Catholic doctrine of Purgatory and compare it with the clear teaching of Scripture. If Christ's blood cleanses us from all sin, what sin remains to be purged after death? Does 1 Corinthians 3 teach a purification of souls, or a testing of believers' works? What did Paul mean when he said to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord?

We will look at:

• Christ's finished work on the cross
• The believer's immediate presence with Christ after death
• The Judgment Seat of Christ and the testing of works
• The old man and the new man
• The sealing of the Holy Ghost
• Why glorification, not Purgatory, is God's answer for the believer

Key Scriptures:
Hebrews 10:14
John 19:30

1 Corinthians 3:13-15
Romans 7:17-25
Romans 8:23
Ephesians 1:13-14

The Bible teaches that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and that His sacrifice is sufficient to save completely those who come unto God by Him.

"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him..." — Hebrews 7:25
